Qualifications

Andrew’s qualifications range from a bachelor’s degree in zoology and ecology, a postgraduate diploma in tourism management and marine science, a postgraduate diploma in natural history filmmaking and communication, as well as his Master 500 GT NC master certification.

Biography

Andrew has been part of the New Zealand Maritime School for several years. Andrew also has extensive experience lecturing on expedition vessels worldwide.

Andrew has significant expedition cruising experience in the Sub Antarctic Islands of New Zealand and Australia, Antarctica, Alaska, Greenland, Polynesia, Micronesia, Melanesia, Indonesia, Borneo, South East Asia and in the Kimberley, Arnhem Land, Great Barrier Reef and Tasmanian regions of Australia. Andrew has worked as a dive guide in the Red Sea and skippered whale watching and dolphin swimming vessels in New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii and British Columbia. Andrew has also skippered vessels for the Department of Conservation in the Hauraki Gulf.

Industry activities

Andrew stays active in the industry both with work on expedition vessels and in the capacity of Marine Mammal Observer for cable laying vessels.

Memberships

Andrew is a member of the Maritime and Seafood Educators Association of Aotearoa. He is a member of the Te Atatu Boat Club.
